A Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) is a device that provides security beyond a traditional stateful firewall and moves into application-level inspection, intrusion prevention, anti-virus protection and more. Since being introduced in the 1990s, firewalls have had to evolve to keep up with the ever-changing threat landscape to protect organisations and their assets. Next Generation Firewall advantages include being able to provide additional protection that is not found in a standard stateful firewall, by combining features which used to be accomplished using multiple dedicated devices, with the latest innovations using Machine Learning to block new and unknown threats before they have a chance to cause any impact.
